The Artisans
Meeting the families behind every rug
Our Weaving Community
The Atlas Knot partners with over 200 weaving families across the Atlas Mountains and surrounding regions of Morocco. Each artisan brings their own heritage, techniques, and creative vision to create rugs that are truly one of a kind. We believe in building direct relationships with our weavers, ensuring fair wages and sustainable livelihoods for these skilled craftspeople and their families.

Khadija Ouchen
Taznakht Region

Zhor Amzil
Beni Ourain
Zhor works exclusively with undyed natural wool from high-altitude sheep, creating the iconic diamond patterns characteristic of Beni Ourain rugs. Her commitment to pure, natural materials honours generations of family tradition.
The Weaving Process
Each rug is handmade through a meticulous process that begins with the careful selection of wool. Our artisans card, spin, and often dye the wool themselves using traditional methods and natural materials. The wool is then wound onto wooden looms, where the weaver works row by row, knot by knot, creating intricate patterns that can take weeks or months to complete.
The rhythm of traditional weaving is meditative and deliberate. There are no shortcuts, no mechanical production lines. Every colour variation, every knot, every design choice reflects the weaver's skill, intuition, and connection to their craft. This is why no two Atlas Knot rugs are ever exactly alike—each piece carries the unique fingerprint of its maker.
Direct Partnerships & Fair Trade
We believe that beautiful rugs should never come at the expense of the people who create them. That's why The Atlas Knot operates on a direct-partnership model, eliminating middlemen and ensuring that weavers receive fair compensation for their work.
We work closely with our artisan families to understand their needs, support their communities, and maintain long-term relationships built on respect and mutual benefit. When you purchase an Atlas Knot rug, you're directly supporting the livelihoods of these skilled craftspeople and contributing to the preservation of traditional Moroccan weaving techniques for generations to come.
